Orioles Roster Moves 3/26

Before we get into baseball, I want to mention the absolute tragedy that befell the beautiful city of Baltimore early this morning. My heart goes out to those affected and to the city and its people. The Orioles opted to cancel tonight’s open practice and fan fest to allow the city to grieve the loss of life and the gorgeous Francis Scott Key Bridge. Baltimore is a resilient city and will no doubt grow stronger through this tragedy.

Now, to the baseball news. Over the weekend, the Orioles optioned Jonathan Heasley and Bryan Baker to the Norfolk Tides, and outfielder Colton Cowser was informed that he would break camp with the Major League squad. The major signing of the week was former Athletics utility man Tony Kemp. Nick Maton was designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster.

In his eight-year Major League Career Kemp has played for the Astros (2016-2019), the Chicago Cubs (2019), and the Oakland Athletics (2020-2023). Kemp has a career slash line of .238/.325/.352 with 460 hits, 261 runs, 87 doubles, 15 triples, 35 home runs, 184 RBIs, 53 stolen bases, and 226 strikeouts with an OPS of .677.

Colton Cowser

Drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 1st round of the 2021 MLB Amateur Draft. Debut on July 5th, 2023. He begins the 2024 season with his rookie status still intact. In 2023 Cowser had a slash line of .115/.286/.148 with seven hits, 15 runs, two doubles, four RBIs, one stolen base, 13 walks, and 22 strikeouts with an OPS of .433.
