Joe Burrow, with authority, asserts the Bengals are ‘built’ to beat Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs
Katie Stratman-USA TODAY Sports

Nobody is invincible, even Superman could be humbled by a small piece of kryptonite. The same applies in the NFL wherein every great team has sooner or later faltered over and over against a single opponent or a strategy. The Kansas City Chiefs have wreaked havoc in the NFL in the past 5 years. The team has established sheer dominance in the AFC by reaching the Super Bowl four times since Patrick Mahomes took over.

The Patrick Mahomes effect is evident and nothing short of a nightmare for teams in the NFL, however, there is one player who has bested number 15 at every opportunity. Joe Burrow, the quarterback of the Cincinnati Bengals is 3-1 against the Kansas City Chiefs. He recently featured on the New Heights podcast with the Kelce brothers wherein he revealed he still believes that his team is built to beat the reigning Super Bowl champs.

I think we both work really hard. They have great players, we have great players. I think we match up pretty well with them. I think we're build to beat them. Joe Burrow on New Heights

Last season, fans never got to witness Round 5 of the Mahomes-Burrow matchup as the latter was ruled out of the season owing to an injury.

Patrick Mahomes considers Joe Burrow to be his biggest rival amongst NFL QBs

This upcoming season, prima facie the Bengals seem to be the only team with a legitimate shot to beat Mahomes and the Chiefs from winning three straight Super Bowls. The Bills are no longer a threat to Kansas City, it would not be a stretch to say that the team’s window to beat the Chiefs is shut tight. The Dolphins falter when they go up against the top teams in the NFL, the Jets, fans need to get a better look at how the team fares with Aaron Rodgers in the mix, and there are the Ravens and Texans who can challenge Kansas City.

I always appreciate the legendary battles we have. Guys are out there always making plays. Patrick is always out there making lays. Both teams have big-time defensive lines. It's a great matchup. Joe Burrow added

The Bengals first beat the Chiefs in the 2021 AFC title game where Burrow won and reached the Super Bowl. In 2022, Mahomes got the best of him, this season, there was potential for yet another matchup in the playoffs between the two young QBs, however, Burrow’s injury late in the season resulted in the Bengals’ season going off-track. This season, it will be fascinating to see if Mahomes and Co can go on to mark the first three-peat in NFL history or if Burrow will stand in his way.
